The weather was craptastically rainy in the city today, but only moderately craptastic in the burbs, which is nice. We had dinner at our favorite Thai joint in town and pretty much got the usual.

It’s funny because it seems like it’s been a few days since I’ve actually sat down and had a conversation with busy daddy. The boy is at the stage where he doesn’t really like it when busy daddy and I talk about stuff that he doesn’t understand or know anything about. So if the boy is not part of the conversation, he’ll insert himself. This means that a simple conversation can talk hours to complete as we go on a variety of tangents.

Thankfully at dinner, the boy wanted to play the “first one to talk is a rotten egg” game, which is a surprisingly effective way to have a pleasant, quiet dinner out. It also meant that busy daddy and I ended up finishing our conversation via text message. Nice.

Yeah, we were too lazy to think of someplace different to go, so we ended up with our tried and true dinner spot. Not pictured, the boy had Thai chicken dumplings and coconut shrimp, while lazy uncle had grilled pork chops (which the boy says is his new favorite dish, since he kept cadging bites from his uncle’s plate), busy daddy had the pan-seared chicken prepared Thai style (which I think means it was doused in sweet chili sauce), and I had the Penang curry with chicken. All delicious!

Guess what we had for dinner? Yeah, it was gluten-free Thai food at Wild Ginger. We’re currently working our way through the curry selection on the menu. Busy daddy told the boy that he could have ice cream after dinner if the boy a) ate his meal and b) behaved at the restaurant. It was touch and go for a while, and toward the end of dinner, it looked as if we were going to go home without any ice cream. The boy pulled it out in the clutch and his reward was a cone of crazy vanilla.

The Busy-Lazy family is nothing if not creatures of habit. After having a terrific dinner at the new local Thai restaurant last night, we decided to give it another try (mostly because I’ve been too lazy to cook). Again, the restaurant didn’t disappoint. Good stuff.

A new Thai restaurant recently opened in our town. Busy daddy, the boy and I tried it for the first time tonight. The decor is a bit weird (the dark oak paneling made it feel more like a steakhouse than an Asian joint), but the service is friendly and unpretentious, and (more importantly) the food is really, really good. A nice addition to the Busy-Lazy family restaurant rotation.
