As part of the domestic open adoption process, the Busy-Lazy boys had to make a video profile for prospective birthparents to view and, you know, pick us and stuff. Here’s the thing: our agency’s video production company makes videos that can only be nicely described as utterly craptastic.
During our home study and education courses, I asked our case worker if we could produce our own video because, frankly, I think I could have made a better video—even if I was wearing a blindfold and had my mouth stuffed with marshmallows. Apparently it’s “not cool” and “unfair” to make a profile video that looks “better” and “more professional” than everyone else’s, so we had to go with the shizztastic video made by our agency’s guy.
I got a copy of our video profile yesterday, and it’s no wonder that a birthmother hasn’t picked us yet! I mean, seriously, the video quality is only marginally better than one of those sketchy dating videos from, like, the 1990s. Plus, the boy looks positively miserable.
Lowered Expectations, indeed!
If I was birthmother and I saw the video, I’d be all, Who are these damned fools? And what have they done to that poor little boy? Ugh. Double ugh. Or, whatevs.

  9. nerdiosity said: I’ve never seen him look so sullen, and in contrast to how smiley to two grown ups are…
  10. ekrepcho said: Aw, bummer! Couldn’t you make one anyway and post it on here or something in case the birth mother wants to research you independently from the company? Or does it not work that way?
  11. viaukraine said: The boy’s face is perfect! If I were a birthmom I would think you were doing something right since you clearly aren’t bribing the boy to pretend to be happy.
  12. thekidhasarrived said: Boy looks like he’s just double-dog-daring some baby to even THINK about trying to live with you guys.
