Not to over-generalize, but what counts as “news” in this country is usually utter crap, especially when the focus is on Asian people and how we parent our children. Fact is, Asians are one of the last minority groups in this country to which it’s perfectly acceptable (and practically encouraged) to make broad and sweeping generalizations, no matter how outrageous the claims, and often with impunity.

Take for instance the recent brouhaha surrounding the case of the Eagle Dad who forced his son to run around in the snow wearing nothing but his underpants. The lamestream media took this as yet another opportunity to deride the parenting choices of all Chinese people. Take, for instance, this (Asian) reporter’s quote, “the video is reigniting debate here about how Chinese should parent their children after a controversial book about Tiger Mothers raised questions about Chinese parenting skills.”

First, fuck you. Second, please explain to me how one stupid father’s actions represent the parenting of all parents who happen to share the same race/ethnicity? Let’s imagine for a moment that the video showed a white father (or white mother) doing the same thing. I doubt that the entire population of white parents would be indicted for their parenting. Yet, one Asian father or one Asian mother does something stupid, and all Asian parents must shoulder the burden of the supreme idiocy of parents who happen to be Chinese.

If I have to hear one more stupid “news” reporter “report” on the so-called “controversies” about “Chinese parenting,” I will punch each and every one of those racist bastards in the face until they bleed. That is, only after I force each and every one of them to practice piano for three hours and run around in the snow wearing only their skivvies.

Stupid freakin’ idiots.

  5. lmbandgcb said: Seriously. Though I don’t agree with this one particular Chinese parent, it’s really ridiculous to generalize. There are tons of parents that I don’t agree with out there and they definitely aren’t all Chinese. Must have been another slow news day.
  6. fatboydiaries said: But Lazydad where would we be without sweeping generalizations? Next your going to say that we should be holding individuals accountable for their own actions and not blaming their entire race/culture for personal behaviors. That’s just crazy talk!
  7. fyrikaos said: AMEN!! i’m not asian… but I fully agree… the stereotype is disgusting! This father should be investigated yes, but to put the blanket assumption that all Asians do this is asinine!
  8. mayak46 said: Sing it! All Indian kids are engineers. Did you know that? Ok. I admit I’m a pushy mom and at times do dangerously skirt the stereotype caricature of Tiger Mom. This however? This is abuse. And CPS should be knocking on their door.
